From music to fashion this girl needs to tour Down Under. Im sure Strathfield will appreciate her presence. She did record her latest English album in Australia and has done various music video shoots here in Sydney.

“For the album, BoA worked with well-known music producers such as Bloodshy & Avant, Brian Kennedyand Sean Garrett. The recording of the album took place in Thailand, Australia, Atlanta and Los Angeles. On Space Shower Music Update during her interview, BoA said that the album consists of upbeat songs and the use of a vocoder.” -Wikipedia

The article which appeared in MX newspapers on Friday the 18th of December 2009 is a complete joke. But hey it was one hell of a read forMX newspapers sponsored public transport commuteres in Sydney on Friday afternoon. Especially those stunned faces of young Asian professional office workers who walk out of their office and read this daily goss&floss written in black and white ink.

The Aussie media loves to feed us with content rich mediums everywhere we go which is consciously and sub-consciously dictating our lives penetrating our senses on a daily basis. The multitude of pop culture and subliminal messages infiltrating our life creates new generations of Asian heritage living a life not understanding their own culture and roots because they have not been exposed to a decent amount of representation of their own kind.

Consciously we don’t see it on hard paper, billboards, electronic screens of all kind but we are surrounded by human life that looks blantantly Asian everywhere in flesh and blood on a daily basis. These Asian friends of ours play an integral part of life, they become characters in our life much truthful than a fictitious drama on TV that doesn’t represent the REAL society we live in.

I seriously now think its not the fact Asians are under-represented in the media. The fact is according to our census which in turn makes up the statistics classification of Australian nationality that is of Asian descent is only a mere 8% of the population.

Walking around the CBD of Sydney on any given weekday I start to count the random physical appearance of Aussies that look Asian vs Aussies that look of Euro descent. In the people I counted 6/10 were Asian along George st@5pm. 4/10 were Euro decent. As we head over to downtown Sydney 9/10 were of Asian looking. From Wynyard to Central on the subway approximately 5/10 were Asian. Ok maybe I’m not a professional counter and didn’t do Asian approved 4 unit maths in High school. But I just see what I see and thats the truth right?

Most of Australia’s population do live&work in the city of Sydney. But this is just central Sydney. The ones with most spending power and the highest concentration of retail outlets anywhere in Australia. Means there is a consumption power surrounding the population in the CBD. Asians do love their shopping so why no representation of Asians in the media that is worthwhile to mention besides than a New Yorker aka Lucy Liu?
If I travelled to Riot town aka the Shire, also known as the infamous Cronulla Beach maybe the proportion would be 8% Asian and the rest a mix of Lebs and Aussies fighting over a sand castle & some territorial piss.

However the 8% does not count skilled and non skilled potential Asian migrants or refugees. This reminds me of that bumper sticker I saw on the back of a car the other day. This bumper-sticker shows a map of Australia represented the worse in some humans around this town. The bumper sticker blared the acronym ‘GTFO we are FULL’ meaning this is AUSTRALIA get the f%$* out of here we are bloody full and you are taking our land cause we can’t physically & mentally fit you foreigners.

BTW the statistic that Asians only consist of 8% of the Aussie population does not include the oversea students residing here semi-permanently, tourists on working visas and busloads of them in the city everyday and your token refugee or illegal tourist on their 8th working VISA.
So why there is no representation of Asians in the mainstream media or lack of them in general. The fact is not many Asians work in the media industry here. Also saying that even if there was Asians working in publications or anything that has influence on general culture media & advertising; they would less likely to actively promote or use any form or shape that represent a human of Asian descent as an model/actor. Unless they want to lose their job because according to statistics the market is 8% Asian. The reason is because the marketing media magnets want to represent the majority of the population thinking it is more likley to succumb consumers by representing the majority. Makes total sense right?

Thirdly how many Asians are willing to become a high class professional prostitute, I mean slut, I mean model, sorry mind my language ..what iI sincerely mean actor or better; artiste. The fact is exposing yourself on national media in the 1st place is not actually honorable to your family. MTV’s Tila Tequila got away with it and so did that Asian girl on Hi-5; exposing her navel to three year olds and stay at home mums.

And besides most Asians have an inner or outer shell that resembles a stereotype of some kinda of nerd. No offense you are either a computer nerd, Book nerd. Numbers nerd, Dance nerd, Food nerd, Karaoke nerd, Sports Nerd or just your regular nerd who spends way too much time on Warcraft.

At the end of the day Asians are more practical and definitely take a hard think before pursuing a career in such a hypocrisy known as the Australian media. I mean with recent disasters the Aussie media do love a good kick with treating minorities in the most dearest and sincere fashion. Also known as ‘Hey Hey Its the Weekend lets get all pissed and diss some black people’ is not really COOL at all. Yes rewind the 1970’s White Aussie bogan policies like a broken record.

You may think thats just how our laid back, fair dinkum society rolls about; but the media is the media; its there to mediate culture by a small number of power hungry media magnets to make money and manipulate our senses to think what is politically correct and form an acceptable norm of behavior. Obviously its not always the case. The media is usually what the majority represents and therefore will be the most profitable and its all about that very important account that generates advertising revenue hitting the roof in millions….. yadda yadda yadda scores and ratings etc etc

The ABA’s(Aussie Born Asians) out there are probably flipping reading this… are you enlighten much now? So stop complaining why are there lack of Asians in the media in your daily conversations and rants!
To be honest if you really want to see more representation in the Aussie media go make a TV commercial of your favorite brand. Then pitch it to a creative agency. Good luck with that.

Go make a film that represents who you are and where you from and screen it wherever you can. Go write a song and upload to itunes. Write a book or if you want a faster way to stardom, strut your fashion down that imaginary runway along George street and in hope some agent will pick you up as Australia’s Next Top Asian model. LOL Good luck with that too.

Even better if all else fail go the local vendor and buy a Chinese Newspaper, then again most Aussie born Asians don’t read Chinese. Just stop complaining and thinking the media is so lacking of your own kind. There is always cable Asian TV also known as TVBJ. Go watch foreign Asian content on the tube and eat your rice cause its not worth fighting for a cause when obviously its not worth the time and effort when you are just a mere 8%. OR GTFO out of this blog and fly back to Asia where your blood comes from cause apparently in Asia the media and population is 99% Asian.

WIKIPEDIA STATES: “Abolition of the White Australia Policy in the mid-1970s led to a significant increase in non-European immigration, mostly from Asia and the Middle East. About 90% of Australia’s population is of European descent. Over 8% of the population is of Asian descent (predominantly Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino and Indian). The total indigenous population is estimated to be about 520,000 individuals, including people of mixed descent.”

PS: this rant is devoted to MX newspaper’s ANNA BRAIN who completely made my afternoon better by reading her column about giving a Fair Go Representation in Aussie Media. This entry is also dedicated to those readers out there who are complaining my blog is becoming a way too self indulgent and more of a pop music catalogue and not much about discussions of AUSSIE ASIAN identities.
To be honest there I rather be not too serious and discuss this so called important agenda of identities here. After all I did rename this blog as a POP blog not a political wall for ranting.

Sammi and Jesus. Asia female singers promote religion in POP music to succumb the billions to thousand years of traditions.

Faye Wong volunteered to rearrange and perform the Heart Sutra for the Famen Temple Ceremony on 05/09/2009. It was her first public solo performance in about 5 years.

Even though the voice of an angel is a Christian term that is not appropriate to describe the voice of a Buddhist. But in this performance the best selling female singer of all time Faye Wong of Asia does Buddha like no other. Sammi might LOVE JESUS but she is no angel when vocalising her beliefs in music. Just look at the video she looks like a devil reincarnate that Sammi Cheng. Faye Wong on the other hand shows she has the voice sent from heaven and the performance and calamity of a human being with faith and kindness. She is after all a mother of two girls and has been an ongoing ambassador for the Buddhist teachings about re-incarnation, nirvana , enlightenment and general well being for anti-dandruff shampoo.
故說般若波羅蜜多咒，即說咒曰 ：「揭諦揭諦，波羅揭諦，波羅僧揭諦，菩提薩婆訶。」

In the first part (lines 1-11), we are reminded of the time when the Buddha transmitted his entire understanding of the Abhidharma, or Matrix of Reality, during the seventh monsoon following his Enlightenment. We then consider Avalokiteshvaras reformulation of such instruction to correct Shariputras misunderstanding of it. The basis for this reformulation is the teaching of prajna in place of jnana, or wisdom rather than knowledge. Thus, the conceptual truths on which early Buddhists relied for their practice are held up to the light and found to be empty of anything that would separate them from the indivisible fabric of what is truly real. In their place, Avalokiteshvara introduces us to emptiness, the common denominator of the mundane, the metaphysical, and the transcendent.

In the second part (lines 12-20), Avalokiteshvara lists the major conceptual categories of the Sarvastivadin Abhidharma and considers each in the light of Prajnaparamita. Following the same sequence of categories used by the Sarvastivadins themselves, he reviews such forms of analysis as the Bodies of Awareness, the Abodes of Sensation, the Elements of Perception, the Chain of Dependent Origination, the Four Truths, and the attainment or non-attainment of Nirvana, and sees them all dissolve in emptiness.

In the third part (lines 21-28), Avalokiteshvara turns from the Sarvastivadin interpretation of the Abhidharma to the emptiness of Prajnaparamita, which provides travelers with all they need to reach the goal of buddhahood. Here, Avalokiteshvara reviews the major signposts near the end of the path without introducing additional conceptual categories that might obstruct or deter those who would travel it.

In the fourth part (lines 29—35), Avalokiteshvara leaves us with a summary of the teaching of Prajnaparamita in the form of an incantation that reminds and empowers us to go beyond all conceptual categories. This teaching has with good reason been called the mother of buddhas. Having survived a yearlong journey through the jungle of early Buddhism to the secret burial ground of the Abhidharma, I would add that the Heart Sutra is their womb. With this incantation ringing in our minds, we thus enter the goddess, Prajnaparamita, and await our rebirth as buddhas. This is the teaching of the Heart Sutra, as I have come to understand it over the past year.

(제시카 H.O.) - Life Is Good (인생은 즐거워) is set to become the next BoA.

Jessica H.O is the orginal FAI+h and H.O.pe. The Korean original is more well polished and executed than Sammi’s Cantonese release of ‘Fai+h’.

Whatever happened to the golden days of HK music scene. There is no sign of relief without the major creative players gone into retirement. BEYOND, Faye Wong, Jacky Cheung, even Nic and Ed. Not even Jay Chou this year continue his constant pump out of new material. Ever since I can remember in 2001 jay Chou has released one album after an another and one better than the next . He stopped this year on a hiatus I believe. Hopefully 2010 is a return after his ‘Capricornic’ explosive release last year and full fledge EasyWay tour.

Now Sammi is back again with new releases her cover of a teeny-bopper song is an excuse for brand new music? Come on you can do better than that. Jessica H.O no pun intended is an upcoming act inspired by BoA. FAI+H is a poor remake after realising how well produced the video and track of ‘LIFE IS GOOD’ compared to Sammi’s lazy re-hatch of this Korean original.

Please Sammi PLEASE… stop going to Church every given Sunday and actually go spend some time in a REAL recording studio writing your own REAL original music.

Please do not copy and paste Korean originals and think your God send. Because people will find out that when you cover a Korean track they will lose respect in listening to your music anymore. If only you didn’t do this cover some fanseeee might still have Fai+h in your music. Bring back the good old 90’s days of good canto pop.

Initially there was so much negative attention focused on the acceptance from the public regarding a full Gospel album. Hong Kong society in general and its Chinese oriented entertainment industry is generally Buddhist or less Christian of a society. For a Hong Kong singer to release a completely gospel album will make your local reverend proud but its not your usual Canto-pop fan fare. And indeed was an alarming concern for many of Sammi’s ‘people’. Since music execs and heads of East Asia Records was thinking the Christian theme will be a major turn-off for old and new listeners alike especially the anticipation of the comback#2 tour.

Since the thing with Sammi; if her manager did not control her creativity she probably turn the entire concert supposedly about sex, music and rock and roll into a Hill Song super live event which probably won’t turn into tickets sales but a bad public relations disaster.

‘LOVE MI’ world tour 2010 is now recommended for general viewing; less of that usual skimmpy bra top and feather-top trademarks of Sammi’s old image of super sex-drogenous live shows. More of a buttoned tight Sunday at Church Ned Flanders outfitters but still completely classy, stylish and full of the saMMi goodness.

All I can say MC YAN rapping gives the tracks an edge and definitelty remix SAMMI’s tracks with more intense hardcore-ness similar to Edison Chen’s INFAMOUS ‘PLEASE STEAL THIS ALBUM’ release.

[GIVES ME: STRENGTH.JOY.HOPE. A BRAND NEW MI.] - is the new album slogan also Sammi’s new motto.

Here is the track list:

信 Faith【專輯曲目】：
01.信者得愛(FeaturingMC仁)
02.罪與罰(Featuring24Herbs)
03.上帝早已預備
04.不要驚動愛情
05.結果
06.你愛我
07.有一種快樂
08.Forgiveness(英)(Featuring24Herbs)
09.阿門(國)
10.你愛我(國)

This single is of Korean origin is usual for the HK laziness in making their own killer dance tracks. The video focuses on the city landscapes depicting sam’MI’ as some sort of incarnation from the darkside.

This is the main track from the new ‘FAITH’ album released on the of 10th December 2009. Still fresh from the 10 days its been release just in time for Christmas. Its a mix bag of lyrics inspired by the finding of Sammi’s long time love ; GOD and her main focus to put herself into a more respectable position as an artist and human being. In the past Sammi stated she has been way too superficial immersing herself + indulging on luxury goods especially living in such a consumption hungry, shopping hungry city of Hong Kong. God has apparently restore her FAITH in life after going through so much these past few years and she feels its about time she needed to express a deeper more personal thought in her music. ‘LOVE MI’ comeback tour 2010. The MI is back! TOUR DATES in Australia is a must in my opinion. Her 2007 Sydney and Melbourne tour was amazingly packed and great feedback from the the Aussie Asian crowd.

Sammi Cheng’s Hong Kong comeback tour number 2. ‘LOVE MI’ theme song! A semi-sequel to her 90’s track DING DONG. The video uses a mish-mash of cut and paste animation technique. A super high presence of art-deco and stop animation plus a homage to UK indie pop scene.

鄭秀文【完整】Complete rewind to 2003. Sammi Comeback Part 2?LOVE MI

Back in 03 it was one of those times which consisted of waking so early and struggling to travel to university. My uni was located in a leafy suburbia among the Australian landscape. And I just hated it. This song was my sleeping song on public transport on repeat. Way before the iPOD video was invented. Its one of those tracks that got me going when I was half asleep. Sleeping songs that you just have to listen to like 10 times to feel its presence in your 3.5mm earphones.

This track is one the more unnoticed tracks by Hong Kong artist Sammi. ‘Complete’ which happens to be one of my favorite videos of all time because its just very simple and very Taiwanese. Like how Easyway does your thirst on a summer’s morning before class. So 2003.

Now six years down the track. Sammi Cheng is back once again as part of her ‘MI’ persona. She has literally turned over a new leaf and found ‘FAITH+GOD’.

Sammi is one of Hong Kong’s biggest superstars and Asia. She has been suffering from 3 years of depression because of her father’s ill health and emotional issues with long time beau Andy Hui.

This time after the success of her SHOW MI world tour in 07-2008. She is now back again with a Christianity inspired album and alongside with her upcoming world tour and hopefully an Aussie tour down under in Sydney+Melbourne. The theme is once again about ‘Mi’ but instead of ‘SHOW MI’ , new tour title in 09-2010; ‘LOVE MI’. Its all about finding GOD and faith in yourself and others too.

Now we just all have to wait for Faye Wong’s Buddhist Comeback Tour. Since both Sammi and Faye are rivals in the Asian music industry its just natural for them to use both of their beliefs as ambassadors for two very different faith and lifestyle choice and musical paths as well.

The track is another release from T.Y.(Tae Yang of Big Bang fame) the video actually has a storyline similar to a certain Taylor Swift MTV winning video but not really [lol]. And yes this video may win some respect from MR Kanye West because TAE YANG can pop and dance like no other Korean RnB singer can. Ok maybe BoA but thats about it.

The plot goes on something like a 20 something wedding scenario with the usual “hi-i’m an amazing Korean pop star dancing like Micheal Jackson and the girl that I adore is marrying some K-drama douche bag and is totally downed by it so I’m going to get my boys to dance some random choreography.” The END.

Enjoy the track because in all of its amazing dance moves the tune is just on top of its game. Just like previous T.Y songs ‘Where u At?’ ‘Look Only At Me’ and ‘Prayer’.

EPIC In EFFECTS!!!!!!!!!!

I have to be brutally honest when it comes to Hong Kong movies. The one that makes an impression on most cinema-goers are the ones with great story-lines and super stylish kung-fu moves. Storm Warriors 2 lacks depth in the story line department but does one hell of an EPIC in special effects. Kudos to the PANG brothers makers of ‘THE EYE’ (which was remade by Hollywood starring Jessica Alba).

These PANG brothers( Danny Pang Fat 彭發) and Oxide Pang Chun 彭順),) transformed this classic Hong Kong graphic novel into a ‘300-spartan-Frank-Miller-esque’ EPIC but retaining the intense Chinese battle sword imagery of Anicient Wu-shu. Alot of action fighting, muscle breaking, blood bathing, faint gazes from Charlene(from Hong Kong girl band ‘TWINS) the main love interest of Ekin Cheng. It also helps if you understand Mandarin.

The amusingly executed subtitled dialogue didn’t help me at all but its a film you don’t even need to understand the history behind ‘Wind’ played by Ekin Cheng of ‘Young and Dangerous ’ fame and Aaron Kwok’s ‘Cloud’ character. Its based entirely on graphic novel movements and you can just feel the brushstroke styles in the cinematographer’s work. There is also alot of still and when I mean still i mean extreme slow gazes much more than an average Wong Kar Wai film.

This film is no Ashes of Time Redux 東邪西毒: 終極版 but definitely impressed me what Hong Kong cinema can do and cannot do! They really created a world full of action pack sword fighting slow motion Matrix-like movement but all set in Ancient China. Its epic, its Chinese and its Aaron Kwok VS Ekin Cheng fighting action.

So if you are in the mood for some testerone action go take a bunch of your mates and enjoy a great night out. Go watch it @EVENT cinemas for a limited time only and please don’t download the illegal torrents. If you do download you are only indirectly affecting the movie industry and maybe next time Storm Warriors 3 comes out they may of spend a little more time on the storyline if you paid for a ticket.

In 2008 Edison Chen was indecently exposed online along with a string of 7 plus other Hong Kong female singers and actresses/models. Apparently Rapper, CLOT clothing designer, actor and part time exhibitionist on camera got carried away with his sexual conquests one famous Asian celebrity after another. Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Bo Bo Chan..etc were all his victims. They were all upcoming superstars and overnight completely shamed their families and friends and alongside their careers in Asia’s sweet like honey media devoid of such sex scandals of this scale until now.

The story was so big at the time, pictures surfaced and plagued emails, online forums and water cooler conversations talk shows across Asia and even got into Sydney Morning Herald front page news. Asians across the globe were completely shocked and one man apparently died after a heart attack in searching for these naked pix of these famous teeny-booper idols. This was an epic scandal which started off as a normal laptop repair then turned into a computer repairer’s discovery of literally hundreds of celebrities in uncompromising naked posistions. Mr Chen and Pop Rocker’s Nic Tse’s wife Cecilia Cheung and the Britney of Hong Kong nowadays Ms Gillian Chung were in hiding for months until recently they are back in the ever crazy Hong Kong media circus.

In 2009 Edison Chen is now the spokesman for the biggest brand in the sporting world, NIKE China.

Tiger Woods should learn for this. After any decent Chinese man would know the values of family , honor and respect. Obviously has now shame and decency&morals.

As most people in Asia would know Tiger Woods is of Asian descent surprisingly on his mother’s side. This maybe of a shock to most Aussies or Americans he is actually half Asian (one-quarter Chinese and one-quarter Thai), one-quarter African American, one-eighth Native American, and one-eighth Dutch.

The fact the media made a huge deal about Woods adultery practices is much of serious matter than Edison’s Chen’s scandal because Chen was not a married man. But in saying that there are no exposing nude photos taken on a laptop of Mr Tiger Woods and his conquests. Just damaging allegations and confessions with Wood’s seven plus mistresses on international TV detailing of his outside of marriage rendezvous. Till the day there are nude photos of the incident Woods is still less mentally damaged as Edison Chen; which was revealed in Chen’s controversial CNN interview. After more than a year Chen is now back in the limelight and as the saying goes ’ time will heal even the most profound pain’ and shame for this matter.

Not sure if Woods is actually embarrassed by all of this but the wife; which is of a perfect specimen herself .. will definitely be ashamed how she couldn’t keep the highest paid golfer in sporting history to her side with her model good looks.

YOU CAN’T AIRBRUSH PERSONALITY
